Sports career
Carsten Hahn began his sporting career in the fourth year with swimming, followed by athletics one year later. Early on he specialized in the “longer” and “hard” courses, e.g. the 200m butterfly, 400m and 1500m freestyle in swimming, 1000-3000m middle distance in running. Carsten Hahn participated in several swimming championships in South Westphalia and West Germany and became multiple South Westphalian and West German champion. As a pupil he was a member of the junior talent squad. After finishing his activity as a swimmer, in 2000, when he was preparing for the Ironman Lanzarote, he set his 1500m best time of 17min 24sec in the speciality course swimming during his sports studies. In athletics Carsten Hahn still holds several club records (as of 2005). Carsten Hahn competed in his first triathlon in 1987 and participated in one of the first German Championships for youth athletes in 1992. He has remained true to triathlon to this day. In addition, he cycled races for training purposes, usually leaving some of the specialists in the C-Class behind him. In 2016 after 5 months of training he finished a 220k training ride, the tourversion od Amstel Gold Race (245km) and the Tourversion of Liege-Bastogne-Liege (278km) on three following weekends.
Training
Carsten Hahn began his studies of sports science at the Ruhr-University Bochum in 1997. He completed his intermediate diploma in biomechanics/motion theory with 1.0. Parallel to his studies, Carsten acquired the swimming coaches C and B licence. He completed his practical special subjects in swimming and rowing. In the course of his studies Carsten Hahn pursued a targeted development towards his later profession, whereby he carried out several own works and two own investigations. These included:

Final Thesis Special Subject Rowing. Comparative requirements analysis of the sports rowing and triathlon with regard to the compensation sport rowing triathlon
Project work in the Training Science project. Independent execution of an own, five-month investigation. Topic: Effects of strength training on the mileage of senior triathletes after a bike
pre-load similar to competition.
Empirical diploma thesis in the field of training science. Topic: Strength training in triathlon. Importance and training habits of top athletes. He completed his final examinations in training
science and sports history with a grade of 1.3.
Carsten Hahn had the offer to do a doctoral thesis in 2005 as a further qualification, which he has not yet done in the interest of the company and the customers, however, so that he can
devote himself 100% to the further development of Hahn Training Systems.
Carsten Hahn worked as a trainer for a triathlon club from 1997-2005, where he was responsible for the coordination of all adult training activities. In this context, Carsten Hahn introduced and implemented the concept of an individual training plan. Later followed the extension to the implementation of lactate diagnostics within the association. In 2004, all of the athletes who had prepared for a marathon or an Ironman set new personal best times.
